What’s with this thing all about

It’s conceptual, man! It’s actually just an ironic joke. One truth I’ve come to learn through many hundreds of conversations with high performers is that the notion of a “path to success” is a fallacy. It’s something I think people (myself included) collectively wish for, but in reality, the road to success is the one you make—and it’s not a straight line.

To demonstrate this, over the years, I’ve cobbled together a phrase that helps me stave off the regret or doubt that comes with life when we’re not yet where we think we’d like to be. I say it just about every podcast, so it’s become a bit of a meme, but the idea is this: “It’s taken every step I’ve ever taken to get to where I am today.”

It’s not that it’s so profound, and it’s probably iterative of something someone smarter than me wrote a hundred years ago, but for me, it’s been a useful way to frame things when I feel like I’ve gone off the path over the years.

I say all that to say this: the purpose of this newsletter is to present a weekly dose of real-world, actionable wisdom. It’s a space where we’ll explore lessons, strategies, and mindsets from the hundreds of conversations I’ve had and continue to have with leaders across nearly every industry. My goal is simple: to inspire you, challenge your thinking, and equip you with the tools to forge your own unique path to success.

Who do you think you are?

My name is Ryan Roghaar. I am a serial entrepreneur, award-winning creative director, podcaster, published artist, and author, and, most recently, a newsletter tycoon.

Since I was young, I’ve always been a “creative” person. Or maybe better said, a curious person. I’ve never been afraid to go all in on something I’m passionate about and lay it on the line—even when it hasn’t amounted to much.

In 2005, I founded R2. My creative agency that now specializes in subscription-based scaling for ad agencies and small to mid-sized businesses looking to expand their creative bandwidth in a click. We’ve worked for the big dogs and the little ones, from the Fortune 100 to your neighbor’s friend’s bake shop.

Seven years ago, I co-launched a creatively charged, business-centric podcast called Eggs! The Podcast, with my amazing co-host, Michael ‘DJ Ontic’ Smith. As of this writing, we have more than 390 episodes available for your listening pleasure. Find them here or on YouTube, here.

I’m based in Salt Lake City, Utah, but as often as possible, I prefer my office away from home in Barcelona, Spain.

You’ll likely learn more about me as we go, but honestly, this might be more than wanted anyhow. :)
